In the Groove

Tune in to SoundScape this Thursday (May 30) on Yarra Valley FM 99.1 from 9pm or get it streamed live from the website to hear the best of ambient music, with Greg Carrick.

Among the range of new and rare ambient that I will be playing, I am going to feature one of my all time favourite albums - 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' by Alan Parsons.

Alan was, for those who need a reminder, the engineer behind Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' album. Alan has extensive experience on both sides of the sound desk, however. His 'Projects' found a niche and fame all of their own, starting with 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' (1976), followed by other great albums such as 'I, Robot', 'Pyramid', 'Eye in the Sky', 'Vulture Culture' and more.

'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' follows the inspired stories of Edgar Alan Poe, who revolutionised stories of the macabre by introducing his readers into the warped minds of his protagonists.

I will be playing the whole album. For those who have experienced it before, it is most likely some time since you have sat down and played it. For those who have not heard it, tune in for an unforgettable experience.

The Goon Show this week will be 'The Phantom Head Shaver'.
